"Incomprehensia" / 10" x 10" / acrylic on canvas / 2016
"Incomprehensia" continues a series of portraits which explore aspects of feminine presentation and identity. A portrait of a young woman is comprised of colorful shapes and swirls. Light and shadow are distributed with carefully chosen light and dark hues. The facial features and patterns are defined with semi-gloss black lines which alternately rein in the composition.
Shapes that fit into the patterned background emerge into the foreground and slightly obstruct the view of the female figure. These shapes highlight her thoughtful eyes and closed lips. She is in a state of observation and reflection, and has not come to any conclusions that she can put into words. This is a tribute to solving complex problems and seeking one's identity.
